Recovering from Trauma
and Abuse For over a decade, I've been helping people recover from trauma and abuse to reclaim their lives. Having survived traumatic events and abuse myself, I know some of the long-term impacts and challenges. Feeling good about myself and being connected to others in healthy relationships are key for me to enjoy life.
I know you too can create the life you want, connected to yourself and others who appreciate who you are and support the person you want to become. Overall, the goal of trauma recovery is to improve your quality of life. When trauma results in the avoidance of feeling because feelings are not safe, it can limit or block the good feelings too. An important step in recovery is feeling safe when feeling. Another important step is being able to calm and ground yourself when feeling distress, anxiety and other difficult emotions. If shame or self-criticism are burdens that you carry, I can support you to love and accept yourself. Self-forgiveness and self-compassion result when you realize that you were not able to prevent what happened. As you explore the deeper meaning of the trauma, you will discover that you more than survived. You will discover the resilient and wonderful person that you always were! The signs of recovery are feeling whole, feeling joy and making healthy choices and safe connections with others. I have a certificate in Crisis & Trauma Response from the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute. I am an approved counsellor for the BC Crime Victims Assistance Program. As a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) of the CPCA, and Registered Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapist (RCCH) of ARCH, my services can be covered by many insurers. Contact your insurance provider to find out. |
